Kidney is a vital part of our body that purifies blood, removes extra fluid from the body, and regulates blood pressure. Even after having a healthy lifestyle, many times we do certain things that adversely affect our kidneys without us being aware of that. Slowly we catch up some symptoms that goes ignored leading to potentially fatal condition. Let us have a quick review of the things we should be aware of for healthy kidneys.
Things That Damage Our Kidneys
Cigarette smoking: We all know smoking is injurious for our lungs and heart, but it is equally harmful for our kidneys. It increases protein in urine that is a sign of kidney damage. It also aggravates diabetes and high blood pressure which affects our renal function.
Long term use of painkillers: Long term or overuse of pain medication is one of the most common reasons of kidney damage. If you frequently go for over-the-counter for instant relief of pain and especially if you use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, then the risks are high.
High Sugar Diet: Lots of sugar in your diet can lead to diabetes and obesity which are risk factors for kidney. It is possible that you avoid direct consumption of sugar, while it is making its place in your regular diet in the hidden way through salad dressings, sandwich stuffs, peanut butter, and other sweeteners. Reducing sugar from your diet will keep you away from any kidney disease.
High Sodium Diet: More sodium in your diet may lead to high blood pressure that intermittently affects your kidney. Over the time, kidneys may get week leading to kidney failure.  

Symptoms of Kidney Failure
Initially there may not be any significant symptoms of kidney disorder. However, some signs that should be watched out are listed below:
  • Weakness and fatigue
  •  Shortness of breath
  •  Lethargy
  •  Confusion
  • Abnormal heart rhythms

Prevention of Kidney Disorders
The best way to keep your kidney healthy is to keep control on the underlying causes of kidney failure. Medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity gradually leads to kidney failure. So, control them and get them treated. 
Foods for Healthy Kidney
Cabbage: Crunchy and cruciferous cabbage is rich in vitamins and phytochemicals which is breaks apart free radicals. It is low in potassium that makes it kidney friendly.
Cauliflower: It is rich in folate and fiber and contains compounds that help neutralize toxins.
Apple: Rich in fiber and anti-inflammatory properties, apple keeps many diseases at bay. It reduces cholesterol lowering the chances of high blood pressure or renal failure.
Onion: Rich in flavonoids, onions prevent deposition of fatty material in blood vessels contributing to the health and functioning of kidneys.
Garlic: It reduces inflammation and lowers cholesterol providing a healthy body environment to the kidneys.
Red Grapes: Flavonoids in red grapes enables muscle relaxation in blood vessels and allows better blood flow. It prevents inflammation and better functioning of kidneys.

If the kidneys have failed permanently, there remains only two ways for a normal life; dialysis or kidney transplantation. It is always better to control the situation before it gets worse. So take care of your kidneys so that they partner with you for always.
